Control Panels Chester

PV Distribution Boards

PV Distribution Boards are a key component in solar power installations. Serving as the main hub, they link inverters to on-site electrical loads, ensuring energy is delivered safely and efficiently.

What sets our systems apart from typical off-the-shelf units is their capacity to incorporate a broad range of essential and optional components into high-quality, pre-wired, and pre-assembled setups—providing a true plug-and-play solution.

These may feature, but are not limited to:

G99 Relay Panels

DSH Cables & Controls has built a strong reputation in Chester, largely due to the dependability of our G99 Relay Panels.

These panels, also referred to as Secondary Phase Failure or Loss of Mains Protection devices, may be required by your DNO but are generally considered best practice for larger solar installations. While many modern inverters now feature built-in G99 protection, having a centralised protection unit that can be independently tested by an engineer is often preferable—and sometimes mandatory.

Our solution is constructed around a PV Distribution Board framework, including an incomer, isolating switch, MCBs or MCCBs for the inverters, and both surge and fuse protection. What sets it apart is the integration of the ABB CM-UFD G99 Relay, which continuously monitors the grid for issues such as over- or under-voltage, frequency fluctuations, and other faults. If a loss of mains occurs, the contactor disconnects the inverters until the problem is rectified and grid stability is re-established.

AC Isolators Chester

AC Isolator Panels are an essential part of any PV installation. While high-spec switchboards may not be necessary for every project, AC isolation remains a critical requirement.

Our range of enclosed isolators spans from 16A up to 4000A, and we only use premium-quality components in their manufacture — when it comes to vital equipment like this, compromise is not an option.

A key benefit of enclosed isolators is their versatility. We can customise the enclosure to accommodate any cable size, incorporate metering, and fit latching state contactors for manual generator intertrip functions. Each panel is specifically designed to suit your system layout, operational needs, and any on-site constraints.

Export Limitation Chester

The introduction of G100 Issue 2 introduced notable updates to the standards needed for system compliance.

We provide solutions for both traditional contactor-based Reverse Power Relay systems and advanced G100 technology, which can monitor and manage the output of any inverter. The conventional option is more cost-effective and works alongside a manufacturer’s system, whereas the G100 solution delivers enhanced efficiency and control.

Both options have their benefits, and the best way to decide which is right for your requirements is to consult one of our team members.

Metering/ Contractor Panels

Our contactor and metering panels are upgraded versions of our standard AC Isolator Panels. They retain the essential AC isolation function while adding the advantages of MID-Approved Metering for precise data collection and contactors that offer a range of operational features.

Metering Panels – When metering is required, an MID-Approved Meter is typically needed somewhere within your system. We can integrate this directly into our isolator panels, saving time on installation and wiring at site. Additionally, the door-mounted MID meters give a professional and polished look to the panels. This provides a cost-effective and streamlined method to include metering, available on Mild Steel Enclosures or GRP with an IP66 Inspection Window.

Contactor Panels – Like our Metering Panels, the Contactor Panels offer an alternative isolation method to the conventional rotary isolator. We fit the contactor alongside a latching state momentary key switch, ideal for systems with a backup generator or those requiring PV system intertripping. The momentary key switch ensures the system cannot re-energise until trained personnel manually restart it on site.

String Boxes Chester

DC String Junction and Combiner Boxes are increasingly taking the place of traditional DC Isolators, which have come under scrutiny following a number of significant solar fire incidents. As most inverters now feature built-in DC isolation, our Junction and Combiner Boxes provide the flexibility to isolate individual strings and offer customised fuse protection on the positive, negative, both, or neither conductors.

Junction Boxes – These are especially valuable for clients who provide maintenance services, as they allow single strings to be isolated and make it easier to pinpoint exact fault locations. Combined with fuse protection, carefully selected components guided by our expert recommendations, and high standards of workmanship from our team, you can be confident your system is both safe and reliable.

Combiner Boxes – Building on the advantages of Junction Boxes, Combiner Boxes also enable multiple strings to be merged into a single armoured cable. This simplifies cable management and improves safety, particularly for longer cable runs.

UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) Panel

Our UPS system, designed by our Director Simon Holdcroft, is a pioneering battery changeover solution that allows a property’s entire electrical load to transition smoothly from the grid to battery power without any interruptions or flickering.

What sets our UPS apart from other systems is its capability to power the whole home (provided the batteries have enough charge), rather than just critical circuits. At DSH Cables & Controls, we understand that priorities vary—whether you’re working from home, streaming films, or running household appliances, your power supply remains continuous while the batteries hold charge.

We provide solutions compatible with both AC and DC coupled battery storage systems.
